journalman's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shawn Visit and Jules Doobie Cruise DOOBIE CRUISE Julia called this afternoon to announce that her fella's BMW is all fixed and that we are all going on a 'doobie cruise' tonight, and to be ready with bells on at 9 PM sharp. Doobiecruising with Jules, her sister, and Brian in a 5-speed 328 is an experience unto itself. In search of open road, we drove along the water, under the Verazzano, and over to Brighton Beach. In mid-October, the beach is totally empty. We walked long the edge of the water all the way to Coney Island, and then walked back. I'm home at a decent hour, I must have walked 6 miles in the sand, and my apartment is sparkling clean. What a way to close out the weekend.
Shawn's monthly visit went better than most any in recent memory. We didn't stay out late, there was no visit to the meatpacking district, and we had an absolute barrel of laughs. Instead, we went to a friend's birthday party (where I met Laura), walked around Dumbo at night for the arts festival, and spend the later evening in a total Mexican divebar. It was incredible; it felt just as if we were in a dusty Mexican town at the local late-night watering hole. At my apartment we had some fun with the telephone... at one point his upstate friends wanted to 'talk to chicks', so I immediately grabbed the phone, did my famous 'girl voice', and within minutes the 2 rednecks were making plans to drive down to the city. After Shawn talked them out of it and hung up (without revealing that I was 'the chick'), we just about fell over each other laughing. It's tough to have a good time like that in this day and age. Classic. 11:54 p.m. - 2006-10-15 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
